Switch from Voxel Elements to Elementor Core

Voxel Elements was a customized version of the free Elementor plugin, developed by the creators of the Voxel Theme. The goal was to modify Elementor’s core files to significantly enhance the page speed of a Voxel site utilizing Voxel Elements. Upon its initial release, Voxel Elements was highly effective in boosting performance.

Over time, Elementor began incorporating some of the performance optimizations originally found in Voxel Elements. Initially, these enhancements were not as robust, but they have steadily improved. As a result, the free version of Elementor now includes multiple performance enhancements directly in its core files, rendering Voxel Elements unnecessary for achieving these performance boosts.

In a forthcoming update of the Voxel Theme, Voxel Elements will no longer be available during the onboarding setup. The official version of Elementor will be the sole option moving forward.

NOTE: Removing Voxel Elements will not remove the native Voxel (vx) widgets you see in Elementor page builder

Transitioning from Voxel Elements to the core Elementor plugin is straightforward:

1. Backup Your Site: Use a tool like All In One WP Migration to create a quick backup in under 5 minutes.
2. Install Elementor:
   • Navigate to your plugins page.
   • Click on “Add New Plugin.”
   • Search for Elementor and click “Install.” Do not activate it yet.
3. Deactivate Voxel Elements:
   • Go back to your list of plugins.
   • Deactivate Voxel Elements.
4. Activate Elementor:
   • Click “Activate” under the main Elementor plugin.
   • Delete Voxel Elements.
5. Regenerate Files & CSS:
   • Go to Elementor > Tools > Regenerate Files & CSS.
6. Disable Performance Caching:
   • Navigate to Elementor > Settings > Features > Turn off Element Caching
7. Final Checks:
   • Verify that your website displays correctly.
   • Clear all site caches.

That’s it! You’ve successfully transitioned to the core Elementor plugin. You can continue using Elementor Pro with the Voxel Theme without any issues.
